Climate change is happening, that’s an undeniable fact, and the increasing number of extreme weather events like hurricanes or unprecedented wildfires bears witness to that.

In response, the automotive industry is accelerating the development of all-electric vehicles, and lawmakers all around the world are pushing for legislation that would ban ICEs from public roads in the near future.

For those who own or restore classic vehicles, an alternative that is environmentally friendly and allows the use of classic rides on public roads involves replacing the conventional powertrains with electric motors.

One such alternative tailored specifically for V8-powered vehicles comes from the California-based company Electric GT.

The complete plug and play 413 e-crate system promises to redefine EV retrofitting by offering an OEM quality package that can be installed without certified high-voltage assembly knowledge.

It is wonderfully designed to resemble a conventional small-block V8 and fits within the LS size format for easy installation using the available OEM or aftermarket mounts.

It features one liquid-cooled permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 275 hp (205 kW; 279 PS) and 406 lb-ft of torque, which is instantly available.

The coolest feature of this system is it can be matted to the car’s manual transmission, a big part of what defines the driving experience of a classic car.

Clutch operation is only needed when shifting gears, and other than that, the car will feel the same - except it will be a lot faster thanks to the instant power delivery of the electric motor.

The electric “motor block” integrates several Ox Drive battery modules each with a capacity of 25 kWh, but the capacity can be upgraded thanks to the modular layout of the unit. Also, additional battery units can be connected to the system with ease for more power and increased driving range.

Also included are a liquid-cooled motor controller, a fully isolated 1000-watt IP67-rated DC converter, and complete thermal management and high-voltage junction box. Furthermore, a 13kW onboard charger is available, with a DC fast charging option set to be added next year.

The 413-conversion system is also preprogrammed to use regenerative braking, which transforms the kinetic energy generated by the vehicle when it slows down into electric energy that is stored in the built-in battery units.

The innovative system is pre-built, pre-wired, and bench tested. The package includes all the necessary components and guides for easy installation, which can be done with basic mechanical skills in about 50 hours of labor.

Electric GT has designed it to be used within more than 10 million classic cars, SUVs, and pick-up trucks built from the 1960s to the 1990s.

Popular examples include the Chevrolet Corvette's C2 and C3 generations, classic Ford Mustangs and early Broncos, as well as Toyota Land Cruiser 40, 55, 60, and 70 series.

Prices for the 413 e-crate start at $65,000 with all the included options, plus a 50-kWh battery pack which can be significantly expanded with a wide range of available modules.

Elon Musk Is Officially the Second Richest Man in the World Now

Elon Musk Is Officially the Second Richest Man in the World Now

Today is a good day to wake up as Elon Musk. As of this week, he is officially the second richest man in the world, thanks to another surge in Tesla’s share price.

The latest development comes less than a week after Musk shot to number three on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, displacing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Fortune reports. It also marks the first time in eight years when Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates does not occupy one of the top three positions. He was at number one until 2017 when Amazon honcho Jeff Bezos dethroned him.

Bezos is still at number one as of the time of writing, with $181 billion in net worth. Musk’s net worth has shot by $7.2 billion with the latest surge in Tesla’s share price, all the way to $127.9 billion. Considering he started 2020 as the world’s 35th richest man on the same list, you could say 2020 has not been as bad for Musk as it’s been for the rest of the world, far from it.

Tesla’s current market value is close to $500 billion, and with three-quarters of Musk’s net worth coming from Tesla shares, it makes sense for his net worth to reflect whatever is happening on the market. However, to unlock the maximum payout of $55.8 billion, Musk must build Tesla into a $650 billion company by the year 2028. Which, considering how 2020 has been going, could happen, probably even before that date. To be fair, 2020 has also proven that you can never have too many misfortunes.

As of right now, Tesla is the highest valued carmaker in the world, despite the fact that it produces a fraction of the number of cars other makers are putting out annually. With new Gigafactories opening both in the U.S. and internationally, those numbers are expected to pick up as early as 2021.

As Bezos would say...

The Chairless Chair Is Used by World Automotive Leaders Such as Ford and Daimler

Robotics and the use of exoskeletons have been making revolutionary advances in recent years. But this tech seems to be accessible only to a select few. Well, that is no longer the case. The Chairless Chair Is Used by World Automotive Leaders Such as Ford and Daimler

What you see here isn’t exactly a robot, but rather a very accessible exoskeleton for the masses. Now, don’t let your imagination wander too far; this particular device is only meant to offer assisted sitting. That right folks, this is known as the Chairless Chair produced by a European company  called Noone. If this doesn't make any sense to you, it will shortly if you carry on reading.

The device is meant to offer sitting support for workers in standing workplaces and is the first mass-produced version of its kind. Basically, it’s a wearable ergonomic sitting support. Not a complete exoskeleton, I know, but it still brings the benefits of one. After all, who says an exoskeleton’s only purpose is to propel?

Imagine a factory floor where workers are required to stand for long periods of time without being able to use traditional sitting methods as those would be considered obstacles in the workplace. How do you keep employees rested and productive without impairing their ability to move freely around the work area? You just get one of these.

The entire system is set up like this. The legs themselves are actually composed of a number of components joined together. Similar to human legs, this chair has several main components: foot, shin, femur, knee, and a support for your Maximus.

The bottom of the chair includes the feet, which look rather like a pair of industrial-duty tripod feet. They are then attached to the wearer’s own ankles, keeping the chair tightly fastened to the body.

These feet are then attached to what can be considered the shins of the exoskeleton. One neat thing about the way it’s all set up is these shins are able to be adjusted to several wearer body sizes. To engage the adjustment, it’s only necessary to push a button on the back of each leg.

Up next is the femoral segment. Here we find the segment that connects the lower part of the chair to the sitting pad. It’s also where the legs can be activated for sitting or disengaged for mobility again. This too happens at the touch of a button, or rather a lever this time. Behind the knees are two minor components, the orange segments, which function as stoppers that keep the entire device from collapsing when you do finally decide you need a break from work.

Finally, we have the final and all important seat. Calling it a seat is a bit off, as it rather resembles two pads, just big enough for each buttock. It’s minimalism and ergonomics at its finest. The two remaining fastening belts are found here: one set is attached to the femoral area, with another around the waist. The three-point harness style allows the chair to always be ready for a sit, but also gives the wearer the freedom to move without obstruction. If needed, an upper-body harness can also be used for more security.

How successful this design is, well, that’s a different story. We can let Ford, Daimler, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Audi tell it like it is as they seem to be pretty happy customers.
