The ARCC Project

We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to protect and share power of this magical place...and the time is now

Help us protect 11,000 hectares of Amazon rainforest and create a conservation lab for research, community learning, and sustainable business innovation.

It Begins With A Dream

“Dreams are today's answers to tomorrow's questions.”
– Edgar Cayce
The dream is to protect 11,000 hectares (27,000+ acres) of primary old-growth forest in the southeastern Peruvian Amazon, part of the Tropical Andes Biodiversity Hotspot – the most biologically diverse habitat on Earth.  Home to 1,400 species of butterfly and 45,000 plant species (the next most diverse location hosts 25,000 plant species, by comparison) – as well as many threatened and endangered species including the giant river otter, spider monkey, black caiman, and harpy eagle – it also serves as a buffer between civilization and uncontacted indigenous tribespeople.
This area is located near the newly paved Interoceanic Highway, a major trade route across South America. The highway brings serious threats to the ecosystem and threats to the long-term economic stability of the region.

Making This Dream A Reality

The dream of protecting this important region of the rainforest is within reach. With support from both local and global communities, the ARCC team has engaged a solid strategy to ensure the success of this project.
Phase 1: Completed
Engage the community to understand local needs, develop networks, and program priorities. Lay the legal groundwork for the land purchase. Set up an organization to manage and facilitate the conservation efforts once the land has been purchased. Create media aimed at sharing the beauty and importance of this magical place. (Visit ARCtv for more videos.)
Phase 2: March 2014
Purchase the first 1,000 hectares, the eco-tourism concession. This is the future home of ARCC, the Amazon Research and Conservation Center. Your contributions will make this phase possible. US based non-profit, Wild Forests and Fauna, will match your donation to ARCC. Together we can raise the last 25% needed to purchase the first 1,000 hectares!
Phase 3: December 2015
Protect the resource rich 10,000 hectares, conservation concession surrounding the first 1,000 hectares. The entire area is over 27,000 acres. See Context and Maps. We have a strategy in place to secure this second land purchase and continue to work with local and international partners in order to protect the Madre de Dios Region of Peru and other threatened environments.

Where Will Your Money Go?

Phase 2...the purchase of the initial 1,000ha. We have a couple months to secure the last 25% - $50,000. If we raise $25,000 for Phase 2 by March 2014, Wild Forests and Fauna will match our donations dollar for dollar and we can purchase the first 1,000ha!  If we exceed our goal, the money goes to purchasing the additional 10,000 hectares surrounding the first concession.

What If We Don’t Reach Our Campaign Goal?

Even if we don’t achieve the goal for this campaign, this land is too important to stop trying.  This campaign is just one of several fundraising strategies we will engage over the next year. Stay in touch with us on Facebook and our website. We will keep you posted on our future efforts.

What Is The Long Term Impact of ARCC?

  • Conserving 11,000 hectares of primary rainforest.
  • Providing unique rainforest wilderness experiences for thousands of new visitors.
  • Preserving the lives and cultures of indigenous communities.
  • Generating opportunities for communities and businesses here in Peru and all over the world.
  • Creating a center for research, community learning, and sustainable business innovation.
  • Educating through multimedia efforts such as photography and filmmaking.
  • Protection of 13+ threatened and endangered species, including the harpy eagle, giant river otter, giant armadillo, and blue-headed macaw.
