Girl Throws Pizza Party For Homeless Instead Of A Graduation Party
A kind-hearted Texas senior turned her high school graduation celebration into a pizza party for homeless children and women at the Star of Hope center in Houston. Rather than celebrating herself, she decided to help people in need.
After graduating from Waltrip High School, Leanne Carrasco had the choice to host a party for her graduation or host a pizza party for the homeless. She told KPRC that it’s more important for her to make a difference in the lives of the homeless than have a graduation party. In addition to pizza and corn on the cobs, residents of the center attending the party received personal hygiene bags.
Carrasco told ABC 13:
You don’t see this all the time, and it’s very fulfilling to know that I’m able to help others instead of just helpig myself. It feels so amazing.
Over the years, Carrasco has volunteered at Star of Hope’s Women and Family Development Center many times. With help from her family, she gave away 90 pizzas and 400 personal hygiene bags for 200 of the center’s residents. So, each person got half a pizza and two hygiene bags. Additionally, on each plate of pizza, she served a side of corn on the cob.
She added:
Carrasco hopes to make a career out of helping people. She is planning to study nursing at Briar Cliff University in Iowa. She will most likely make a very kind nurse.
