Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes (gr. III) winner Ocho Ocho Ocho is Derby bound.
D.P. Racing's son of Street Sense  Winner, by Horse Chestnut, will be shipped to Churchill Downs April 24 to make his final preparations for a run in the 141st Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).
The colt finished third in his last start in the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) atKeeneland.
"He had rough trip in San Felipe (gr. II), but in the Blue Grass, I think he got out of that race what he needed," trainer Jim Cassidy said. "I believe he is sitting on his best performance so far this year."
Ocho Ocho Ocho, who got his name from the hip number 888 he wore at the 2014 Ocala Breeders' Sales April juvenile sale, has won three times and placed once out of five lifetime starts. He won at first asking by a length at Santa Anita Park and then won the Juvenile Turf Sprint Stakes on the Breeders' Cup Friday undercard in his second start. The Juvenile Turf Sprint had been taken off the turf. In his third start, Ocho Ocho Ocho won the $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot by a nose over Mr. Z, with Far Right another four lengths back.
Besides facing the likes of Dortmund in the San Felipe, Ocho Ocho Ocho faced some rough going. The colt has shown a preference for running at or near the front, but he got pinned down along the rail after the break, then bumped just before the first turn and had to be steadied. He had nothing in the stretch and finished eighth.
At Keeneland, Ocho Ocho Ocho matched stride with eventual winnerCarpe Diem throughout much of the 1 1/8-mile Blue Grass, then got passed in midstretch to finish third behind Danzig Moon.
Back at Santa Anita, owner Deron Pearson's Derby hopeful worked a sharp five furlongs April 15 in :58 4/5, the second-fastest of 19 working at the distance that day. His most-recent work was April 22, when he went six furlongs in 1:13 3/5. Cassidy said he is planning on working the colt again April 29 at Churchill.
Elvis Trujillo, who has been in the irons for his most recent works, will have the mount in the Derby
